
I just read this great article on this scientist guy who might be Maya's long lost Uncle... he's been collecting old photos from Ebay and thrift shops and from anyone who'll give it to him in order to study the chemical makeup of the photos. Apparently there's a ton of different ways that B&W printing has been done and all the processes have never really been recorded. Now with digital being the norm, there's a big risk of losing the old ways without any record of recreating the process... future generations would consider it "magical".
