So sitting at my internship just thinking about the show and started thinking about the "walls" made of foam-core.
Maya and I, for anyone who didn't hear, are planning on playing with the idea of fabric, both to section off our area (to prevent spill light from the room) and on the wall we are hanging from (for her to project onto and for my window boxes to peek through).
Just wanted to throw that out there for anyone who wasn't aware of what we were doing because it may come in handy for someone else's section as a good alternative to building walls with foam-core, it is relatively inexpensive and might look nicer compared to the foam-core flats we are given (although most are supposed to be in pretty fine condition). In addition, because of the piping on our ceiling, we would have relatively little problem hanging fabric.
It may also be a nice way to tie together the room though we are sectioning off areas, and depending on what fabric, create a different, lighter, more open feeling to the space than the tall, stiff foam-core.
Just a thought!

Like our first BFA show we'd have to think about how the additional [structural] elements would work with our work. We don't want elements that distract from our pieces. If we get a thin mesh fabric for instance that gives the whole room a light and airy feel then what does that say about our work? Also will this be a consistent element throughout or something that just several people are using or is everyone interested in different fabrics? For instance have you spoken to Irina about her "tent"? I just don't want the show to look too sectioned off or too gimmicky either.
I like the idea of foamcore especially because it can be used as additional "real estate" but if we have a consistent fabric then it could work.
Mesh is nice. I plan on using really bright colors for my walls and incorporating them into my theme to create a movie set.
I just found some nice curtains to layer around the tent, which are made of white lace. I also threw white mosquito netting into the bag to experiment with.
To clarify, I am envisioning double curtains, white on the outside to soften the effect.
My piece is on the other side of the room, so it should balance out nicely.
Are we creating a little village? =)
I know what you mean Janira, Irina and I hadn't spoken before, and yes foamcaore is good real estate wise, but with people building rooms, etc I started to worry about foamcore looking overly bulky and blocking the eye from roaming freely. The curtain idea seems to soften the blow, as well as rovide the function of sectioning off a darker area for maya and me, what our original intent was.
Just thought it was a thing to think about since curtain is relatively cheap and can be kept in nice looking condition.
